Definition: 302 Redirect

« Back to Glossary Index

A “302 redirect” is a temporary redirect from one URL to another. When a web page is temporarily redirected, it sends a HTTP response status code of 302 to the browser, indicating that the page has been temporarily moved to a new location. This type of redirect is commonly used when a website is undergoing maintenance, or when the content on a page is temporarily unavailable but will return soon. Unlike a 301 redirect, a 302 redirect does not transfer the search engine ranking of the original page to the new location.
