Definition: Bridge Page

« Back to Glossary Index

A “bridge page” is a type of landing page that is created with the intention of forwarding or redirecting visitors to another page or website. Bridge pages are often used to redirect visitors from a specific URL or domain to a different, more relevant page or site. For example, a company might create a bridge page for a domain that has expired or that is no longer in use, to redirect visitors to its new website or to a page that provides more information about the company’s current status.

Bridge pages can also be used for other purposes, such as to redirect visitors based on the device or location of the user, or to provide a temporary landing page while a new website is being developed. While bridge pages can be useful for managing website transitions or redirects, they can also have negative effects on search engine optimization (SEO) and user experience if they are not implemented properly. In particular, search engines may view excessive or unnecessary redirects as an attempt to manipulate search rankings, and visitors may be frustrated or confused by the redirect. As such, it is important to use bridge pages judiciously and to implement them in a way that is transparent and provides a positive user experience.
