Definition: Dynamic URL

« Back to Glossary Index

A dynamic URL is a type of web address that is generated dynamically based on user input or other variables. Unlike static URLs, which always remain the same, dynamic URLs change depending on the specific context of a user’s request. For example, a dynamic URL for an online store’s product page might look like “www.example.com/product.php?id=123“, where the “id=123” portion of the URL is a dynamic parameter that changes depending on which product is being displayed. Dynamic URLs can be more complex and difficult for search engines to index, as they often include long strings of characters or parameters that are not easily understood. Additionally, having too many dynamic URLs can lead to issues with duplicate content, as multiple pages can contain identical content with different URLs. To mitigate these issues, it is often recommended to use static URLs, or to use rewriting techniques to make dynamic URLs appear as static.
