Definition: Google bombing

« Back to Glossary Index

Google bombing is a technique used to manipulate the ranking of a specific webpage in Google’s search results for a certain search query. The goal of Google bombing is to artificially boost the ranking of a webpage for a specific keyword or phrase by getting many other websites to link to it with the targeted keyword as the anchor text. This can be done for humorous or political purposes, or to promote or discredit a particular website or individual. However, Google has made several changes to its algorithm to counteract the effects of Google bombing and prevent the manipulation of its search results.
