« Back to Glossary Index

Google Dance is a term used to describe the temporary fluctuation in the ranking of websites in Google’s search results. The fluctuations occur when Google updates its index and applies its ranking algorithms, causing some websites to move up or down in the search results. The term “Google Dance” originated during the early days of search engines, when the updates were more noticeable and frequent, and the fluctuations in the rankings could last for several days. Today, Google’s index updates and ranking algorithms are much more sophisticated and the fluctuations in the rankings are typically less noticeable and shorter in duration. Nevertheless, the term “Google Dance” is still used to describe the temporary changes in the search results that occur when Google updates its algorithms.
