Google Pigeon is the code name for a local search algorithm update that was first released by Google in July 2014. The update aimed to improve the way that Google’s local search results were displayed and ranked. The update also impacted the way that local search results were displayed in the Google Maps section of the search results page. The main goal of the Google Pigeon update was to provide users with more accurate, relevant, and useful local search results, by taking into account factors such as location and distance. The update was rolled out in the US first, and was later expanded to other countries.
