Definition: Link Farm

« Back to Glossary Index

A link farm is a group of websites that exist solely for the purpose of artificially increasing the number of links pointing to a target website, with the intention of improving its search engine rankings. Link farms are often low-quality, spammy sites with little or no original content, created specifically to generate backlinks to the target site. Link farms violate the quality guidelines set by search engines, and as such, they are frequently detected and penalized by search engines. The use of link farms can have serious consequences for a website’s search engine visibility and ranking, and it is not a recommended or ethical method of building links. Instead, websites should focus on acquiring high-quality, relevant links through legitimate means such as creating valuable content, participating in online communities, and reaching out to other sites for links.
