Definition: 410 Gone

« Back to Glossary Index

A “410 Gone” is an HTTP response status code indicating that the requested resource is no longer available and has been permanently removed from the server. Unlike a 404 response, which simply indicates that a resource could not be found, a 410 response indicates that the resource was once present on the server but has been intentionally removed and is no longer available. When a client, such as a web browser, requests a resource that has been permanently removed, the server returns a 410 status code to indicate that the resource is gone and will not be available again. The 410 response is often used to handle the removal of pages or resources on a website that are no longer needed or relevant
